BOATBOY says

'I have no personal problem with any of our politicians in power at the moment. I do have a problem with the way Jersey our home is been raped by developers and a small ISLAND budget that sees a crazy amount of money going in wages, £295 million in 2007. This figure is not the truth either. Consultants fees, and States staff on short term contracts are not shown clearly in the accounts. Remaining with the outrageous wage only bill ( including pensions being paid) how does this affect you personally. It means each man woman and even child is paying around £3,300. in wages that’s each out of your taxes. Difficult for kids , think GST on everything they need.'

I do not understand how you can make the statement that you have no personal problem with any of our politicians and then go on with your views attacking developers etc.

The politicians are responsible for the legislation that is in place that has allowed developers to do business in the island, politicians are responsible for the social policy that is in place.

It befits many of  our politicians to block any attempts to reform the set up of the assembly, feeble attempts have been made to get more people on the electoral role, but in my opinion the turnout will not be a lot higher than the usual 30%, the majority of the electorate do not vote, and there is little of no will by politicians in general to re-engage the electorate!

The person is political ........................

The post has been modified, I dont take them personally because I don't know them personally. The views and principles displayed by many in this Government need questioning, that is my aim, using facts to back my position.

Back to business,

Extract from Eastern Correspondent.

A new advisory committee has been set up to put together a plan of action for Jersey's Finance Industry, the committee will be building on the conclusions of a comprehensive report by The London Business School commissioned

http://planetjersey.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,1060.msg13429.html#msg13429

Also in the JEP two weeks earlier two new members of staff both female and poached from local finance houses, will be joining Jersey Finance. One lady is employed to hunt out emerging markets and the other is a PR/ marketing specialist.

We have a new advisory committee. The banks meet with Jersey Finance on a scheduled monthly basis ? why in the name of heaven do we need two more civil servants, on high wages, and pensions. Someone really is a having a laugh, while we pay.

Answer please Minister Ozouf ?

I feel that it will be a major victory for good sense if Ozouf gets ousted - people on this island understand the serious issues in relation  to an ageing community, this is not a Jersey problem - people understand that costs are rocketing, pensions are parlous etc etc etc.

People do not understand his economic growth strategy as he fails to address the issue in full - fails to acknowledge that increased immigration will impact heavily on infrastructure and resources.

I consider it delorable that he desires incomers of a certain standard - ie professional - it is a form of apartheid! ( but that is for another blog)

Mr Ozouf is paternalistic in his approach, underhand in his transactions, unable to reign in his spending.

Gordon Brown spoke of a new world order in his speech to the party faithful - the globalisation of financial markets and tighter legislation that is going to follow will impact on Jersey - but what do we see Mr Ozouf doing at this time -  FORGING AHEAD - BUSINESS AS USUAL...........will someone tell him..................' the time they are a changing'

Whilst Mr Ozouf plans world  domination by Jersey, the heirachy of the Jersey financial world will be seriously replanning, withdrawing from certain markets and loooking at their iternal practices and procedures.  It is probable that tax revenues will drop year on year but will they stop spending our money ....................not if this guy stays in power.

I was impressed with him when he entered politics but not any more - he needs to get his head out of the sand - take a few years out and possibly come back meeker and wiser..................he is spinning out of control!

Philip Ozouf could have been a hero for Jersey with his understanding of fiscal matters and his speaking persona. It is a tragedy that such potential became sodden with growth and more growth to the detriment of the good people that live on Jersey and the beating close to death of the community spirit that we all would enjoy. It will not matter to him, just development building growth  and fiscal growth policy forgetting it should be only part of the plan.

Suggestion, look at the States wage bill, look at the Corporate waste, then you would achieve far more balance.................... Below you I guess ? .......................India here I come !

Boat boy is right, there used to be a guy after the war called Geddes who went round Government departments and fired the people who did nothing constructive or were riding the pig as they say. Cant we get him back?
