I haven't been in a taxi since the Summer, but I got one from Library Place to the JEC Warehouse up Queens Road last time and the fare came to a fiver.  I understand they are even more expensive now, but let us know what prices you have been paying!

Must say JTM £5 from Lib place to JEC doesnt seem bad.

I have had some howlers, the airport con is the best.

Funny how they are alway sat the airport but nowhere else.

Mate of a mate mrs worked for a cab co.

One night my Mum wanted to get back home after dinner at ours. Not a huge Journey but a few miles.

Phoned all the cab co's...no chance. It was 11pm i will add.

Phoned my mate and he phoned his Mrs. "Be 10 mins, they only want the big fares, thats why you couldnt get one"

Jersey is 9x5, it should be cheapish everywhere.

Was in Portugal a couple of years ago, a 30-40 minute walk into town centre. A 10 minute £3.50 cab back from there with tip at 1am.

Jersey that is a St Aubins to town run, £££££££££ how much? certainly not £3.50 at 1am, more like £13.50.

Actually I remember now that I did get a taxi from the Harbour into the centre of town because it was raining.  How far? A mile maybe?  Another £5.00.  That was just after Xmas.

Be sure to check that they reset the meter before driving off.  They do rip people off.

I have noticed lately that some taxi drivers are changing the meter tariff to suit their own wallets, for instance the same trip home from town to grouville varies from £7.70 to £13.50 depending on the taxi firm used at the exact same hour.  Maybe its about time the DVS started regulating these rogue cab drivers by making some undercover trips.

It is funny that you should say that because we noticed exactly the same thing last week. Great suggestion though.

For taxi fares you always have to bear in mind the different tariffs applying at different times, and, also, the different rates charged by private hire and public rank taxis.

However, regarding taxi fares and GST administration there is an interesting quandry... Most private hire taxi drivers are self-employed and pay the company a radio rental fee each week. As self-employed businessmen they would fall beneath the business threshold at which they would have to be paying GST and so shouldn't be charging it. Taxi companies do, however, directly employ a limited number of drivers and as employees of a company with a turnover high enough to register for GST they will be charging it... So, for private hire taxis there should be a 3% disparity in the fare depending on whether the driver is self-employed or employed by the company... Will this be the case??? Will it f*ck!

(And...overheard in the Lamplighter a couple of years ago... 'Taxi drivers?!? They're always late, they're rude and they charge too much! Who gives a f*ck about them?' The speaker? Guy de Faye 'relaxing' after a hard day at the office. This man could perhaps borrow the services of Frank's public relations service)

Sounds like the most sensible thing he's ever said in my opinion. Many of them are rude, especially on the roads and they are all extremely expensive. Bus drivers on the other hand are some of the courteous drivers I have ever known.

What he said may or may not be true but it certainly demonstrates a highly umprofessional level of contempt for some workers over whom he has ministerial responsibilty.

Oh I couldn't agree with you more. I hope he is the first to clear his desk come October.

I still stand with the opinion that our so called transport minister has no clue of how a transporation system should work, its high time we replace him with somebody who knows what they are doing.
